The Golf Course in Great Denham is a much-valued green space by residents and golfers alike.
The landowner, the trustees of Old Ford End Trust, via their agent Bidwells, has made it known that the current lease held by the Bedford Golf Club will cease on 16th October 2020, and that they intend to cease use of the land as a golf course, and revert it to grazing. The agent has also indicated that they intend to use the existing Clubhouse as a possible school, or other use, and the Greenkeepers compound as commercial/business premises.
The Parish Council, working with Biddenham Parish Council and the Borough Councillors Jim Weir (Kempston Rural), Jon Gambold and Roger Rigby (Bromham and Biddenham), will seek to explore all avenues open:
- Firstly to try to keep the sports and leisure facility operating as a golf club and course.
- In the event this is not possible, to maintain the green space and urban gap – therefore, removing an urban sprawl.
- Lastly, it may be that there are options to allow for both or either at reduced levels, alongside any potential development.
Whilst no planning application for alternative of this land has yet been submitted, it seems likely that further development of this area as housing is part of the landowners plans.
The Golf Course is now closed
